This coming Wednesday, July 30 from 8pm to 9pm, Splash will practice at Ohio State University’s McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in the long course 50-meter pool! In lieu of this practice, we will not have practice at the Jewish Community Center this coming Wednesday.
If you have not had the chance to swim in a long-course pool before, this is a perfect opportunity to do so before the Gay Games in Cleveland.
All Splashers are encouraged to join this practice; however before planning to do so, please review and take special note of the following:
- The pool we will be practicing in at OSU McCorkle is the competition pool. It is kept at a competition temperature which is notably cooler than at the JCC or Hunter (usually less than 80°F).
- The pool is approximately 11 feet deep throughout; there is no shallow end. At each end of the pool, there is a small ledge (4-6″) to stand on.
- We have secured 4 lanes of the 10 competition lanes. There may not be lanes which adjoin a wall.
- Due to the unique opportunity and cost of securing this pool, we may be completing practice off a written workout without on-deck coaching.
In summary, for this practice – please be sure that you are comfortable swimming without on-deck coaching in a colder, deep pool; which may not have an available lane with a wall.
As a final reminder, please note that due to the cost of securing this facility, there is a supplemental fee for this practice. For swimmers who pay monthly dues, the fee is $5. For swimmers who pay per practice, this practice will be $10. Of course, any amount you are willing to donate above and beyond the practice fee to help defer our facility charges are gratefully accepted. Again, all Spashers are encouraged to join! This is a wonderful opportunity to get familiar with long-course swimming before the Games. We will also be swimming at OSU on Sunday, August 3rd.
LOGISTICS:
Plan to enter the facility through the RPAC at 337 W 17th Ave. Inform the employee that you have a reservation in the aquatic facility with Ohio Splash. You should then be able to access the locker rooms prior to heading out on-deck.

PARKING: The closest garage is the Neil Avenue Garage. This is a paid-garage, so car pooling is certainly optional.
